The town committee of Östermalm in Stockholm will build a memorial to Avicii to remember his legacy and celebrate his contributions to Swedish music. The memorial will be constructed in the town center close to where he grew up and went to school.
Tim Bergling aka Avicii passed away by suicide almost three years ago. His greatest hits included Levels, Wake Me Up, and The Nights. Tim suffered from severe performance anxiety and burnout which was brought on by hectic schedules and environments not conducive of practising good mental health.
Tim’s father, Klas Bergling, started the Tim Bergling Foundation to bring mental health awareness and get people talking about suicide prevention. He was happy to hear of the committee’s decision to build the memorial.
“This place will give the opportunity to remember Tim and his music that has meant and still means so much to many people around the world.”
The committee hopes the memorial will be a place to remember Tim and feel inspired by his music, but also a place to find comfort and honour the people lost too soon to mental illness.
