Starting September 20th, the Japanese streetwear guru, Nigo, will begin his tenure as Kenzo’s new artistic director.
Born Tomoaki Nagao, Nigo possesses an extensive list of collaborators including Uniqlo, Adidas, Levi’s, and Louis Vuitton. To speak on his music industry involvement, Nigo is the DJ of the Japanese hip-hop group, Teriyaki Boyz. I wonder if you know, they have collaborated with Kanye West and Pharrell Williams.
Nigo founded A Bathing Ape in 1993, and then sold the company for $2.8 million in 2013. Speaking on his appointment as Kenzo’s artistic director, Nigo stated “inheriting the spirit of Kenzo san’s craftsmanship to create a new Kenzo is the greatest challenge of my 30-year career.” With the help of his team, Nigo hopes to revitalize the Paris-based fashion label. His first collection for men and women is expected at Paris fashion week in January.
